From 17 till 19 June 2016 the Academy for Digital Entertainment organised a Virtual Reality (VR) jam. They did this in collaboration with Samsung Nederland. More than 100 students participated, ranging from students from the International Media & Entertainment Management (IMEM) programme, the International Game & Architecture Design (IGAD) programme, and the Master of Media Innovation programme.
In a weekend (from Friday night till Sunday afternoon), students worked non-stop to create and develop creative and innovative VR games, concepts or ideas for the Samsung Galaxy S7 smartphone and Samsung Gear VR.
The judges, consisting of panel members from Samsung employees and ADE lecturers, chose 3 winners who were awarded with certificates and various prices on Sunday afternoon. In addition, the winners also have the opportunity to present their project at the Samsung Headquarters.
This was the first time for both Samsung Nederland as well as the Academy for Digital Entertainment to organise such an event. It has received lots of positive feedback, making the possibilities for a second edition next year very likely.
