The Academy for Urban Development, Logistics and Mobility and Atlantis Games are going to work together on a project for the city of Schiedam. They are going to adjust the virtual world of the bicycle simulator ‘CycleSpaces’ and complement it for research purposes of the municipality.

Their main research question is what kind of effects do artificial barriers, such as speed bumps and badly lit roads, have on the cycle experience of cyclists. But also, what kind of effects do the several design options of these barriers have on the experience.

Next to that, students from the Urban Design study programme will be asked to design a structure for one of the roads in Schiedam. This area of Schiedam will not be tested in the VR environment, since the construction work is already almost done.
