Kate Edwards will give a guest lecture about ‘Maximising Locales and Managing Mobs: Strategies for Game Culturalisation’. She is Executive Director of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA).
While most game developers and distributors are well aware of the need for localisation, far fewer are familiar with the concept of “culturalisation”, the process by which content is adapted for a globally diverse audience with widely varying local expectations. With the use of many examples from her 20+ year career as a culturalisation strategist dealing with geopolitics, cross-cultural issues and video games, Kate will discuss the challenges of combining game content with culture and how developers carefully navigate the line between creative freedom and geopolitical and cultural expectations.
