Can international students find housing in Breda?

International students encounter problems when looking for housing, according to the Dutch student union (LSVb). NHTV’s Student Office reports on the situation in Breda.

“We cannot provide precise numbers, but we have asked our new international students about this issue during the Arrival Days on 24 and 25 August. 9% of the 319 students then said they hadn’t found accommodation. That means about 30 students.

Most students find a room via Student Rooms Breda, where NHTV has reserved 30 rooms for exchange students and 50 rooms for longstay students. We also have a ‘housing buddy/accommodation’ counselor, who helps and supports students who are looking for a room. With this housing buddy, we distinguish ourselves from many other universities of applied sciences.

It is now two weeks after the Arrival Days, and just a handful of students is still searching. Most of them have found a room theirselves, or with the help of NHTV.

We are satisfied with the results, because we could offer a room to every international student that contacted us. That is better than we did in previous years.”
